ERIC SMITH: "5 Questions for #8"

ERIC SMITH   08 FEB 2010

Since I last checked in, Jose Manuel has returned to the Raptors line up and helped Toronto go on a nice little run in the Eastern Conference. The Raps have won 13 of their last 14 games at home, and 6 of their last 7 overall. In fact, T.O. has gone 21-10 since their 7-13 start. They've been one of the top 5 teams in the entire league over the past 8-10 weeks and Calderon has been a big part of that.

Check out "5 Questions for #8" .

ERIC: What's the latest on your recent ankle injury?

JOSE: Everything looks great. As you saw, I was able to play on Sunday against Sacramento.

ERIC: Mentally, how are you holding up? I'm sure it has been a bit of a frustrating year with the hip injury sidelining you for a few weeks and now having to deal with this ankle sprain as well.

JOSE: I'm ok. The team is doing great so that helps a lot. I just have to be ready for the last part of the season.

ERIC: name has been popping up in some trade rumors of late. Whether those rumblings are legit or not, does that affect your play or your mindset positively or negatively?

JOSE: They are not a bother at all. I'm just trying to do my job, and if something is coming you have nothing to do with it.

ERIC: You've seen players come and go around the deadline during your time in Toronto. Is it an anxious time - wondering who may be staying, who may be going, or what the team might end up looking like?

JOSE: Not really. It's the way it is . but nothing special

ERIC: What do you think has been the biggest reason(s) or factor(s) for the Raptors' turn-around this season . over the past 30 games?

JOSE: We know each other better and we know what we have to do to be successful. We have confidence in ourselves.

Have a good one folks. I will check in again some time soon - after the All Star Break.

JOSE MANUEL GOT INJURED IN INDIANA

Jose Manuel Calderón   03 FEB 2010

In the last quarter of last night's game against Indiana Pacers, Jose Manuel suffered a sprained ankle after stepping on a teammate. The action, entirely fortuitous, does not seem to be serious at all. The most probable outcome is that Jose Manuel will rest for a short period of time and will quickly join team practices. Early studies suggest that the injury is mild.

NO CONTROVERSY

Jose Manuel Calderón   20 JAN 2010

Hello everyone and Happy New Year 2010, it’s been several weeks without writing anything on my web site and it’s time to keep you informed. The most important thing, it’s that I'm fully recovered. As you know, there was a good deal of speculation about the scope of the injury but both the Raptors and myself, decided not to comment and let the controversy go away by itself. I had a small tear in my adductor muscle and with treatment and rest I've recovered and now I am perfectly fine. Hopefully I can continue like this until end of season, I feel great and want to help the team to achieve an unforgettable season.

Another issue that requires remarks is related to my role in the team. As I say in the title, "no controversy". I will never generate a discussion about who should play, how much and when. I've always respected my coaches and I've always thought it was a decision for them and in this case, there is no differentiation. Jay knows he has my respect, just as it was with Sam and all the coaches I played for. I will accept what the coach or the team decides, and if someone is waiting for me to start a controversy about it, I can only say that this is not my way of being, not my style.

Finally, during the trip to New York last weekend, the press kept asking me about possible trades. In this situation, there isn’t much that can be said by the players, clubs have the opportunity to make changes and trades and we have to accept them, those are the rules. What I can say is that I feel very comfortable in Toronto and with the Raptors and I appreciate enormously the affection of the fans.

See you soon.

José Manuel Calderón
